About me

Hi, I’m Danielle - the hands (and heart) behind Apartment Story Goods.

I make small-batch, functional ceramics for the soft rebels and little weirdos that want to make everyday moments feel a little more romantic.

Each piece is bold, playful and personal. Often black and white on the outside, and bright and colourful on the inside - it’s a reflection of how I view myself: a calm and quiet exterior, with a fun, thoughtful, and magical inner world.

You’ll see a lot of flowers in my work, mostly because I think flowers are the best. They’re beautiful, but can be oh so dramatic and fleeting… so I needed some that never die.

I grew up in the badlands of Drumheller, Alberta, playing in the hills and surrounded by dinosaurs. I have a degree in electrical engineering and still work in that field, proudly embracing my inner nerd. In 2019, I found myself struggling with depression and signed up for a pottery class at Workshop Studios just to try and shake myself loose. I didn’t expect to fall in love with clay and its endless life lessons, but, here we are.

I’m now a self-practicing ceramics member at Workshop, and I can truly say that clay taught me how to loosen my grip on perfection, trust my instincts, and remember that making things with my hands is just like therapy… but with better merch.

Apartment Story Goods is named after the song Apartment Story by The National. It’s that space inside my head - that “rosy minded fuzz” - where dreams, memories and feelings blur together. It’s where my ideas come from, and the pieces I create are my little way of giving that feeling a form. Their music has gotten me through my best and worst chapters, so it felt only right to give it a little nod.

Thanks for being here.
Thanks for supporting local artists and handmade goods.
